About the kit
2 or 3 XpandiShelf Complete Kits
Each kit makes one separate wall-mounted shelf that adjusts from 42 to 74 inches in half-inch steps. No cutting.
Need a longer run? Install two shelves end to end so their brackets sit side by side where they meet. Each shelf keeps its own three brackets, so two kits cover 84–148 inches, in any of the three layouts. Planning something else? Email info@xpandishelf.com with your measurements before ordering.
Three layouts. The same three brackets.
Every layout attaches to the back wall. A bracket at a corner attaches to both the back wall and the side wall. Left and right are described as you face the back wall.
- Back wall only (floating): all three brackets attach to the back wall, each using six rear screw holes.
- Back wall and one side wall (left or right): the corner bracket uses three rear screw holes plus two recessed side-wall holes. The other two brackets each use six rear screw holes.
- Side wall to side wall: each end bracket uses three rear screw holes plus two recessed side-wall holes. The middle bracket uses six rear screw holes. The distance between the side walls must be 42–74 inches.
Never put screws into the large round rod openings.
Size and clearance
One shelf adjusts from 42 to 74 inches long. Each bracket is 10 inches tall, 2 inches thick and sticks out 12 inches from the wall. Check that doors, trim and walkways have room.
Installation overview (for each shelf)
- Choose your layout and bracket positions. Use wood studs where possible; otherwise use suitable anchors with the screws. Side wall to side wall: measure between the walls at shelf height, near the back and near the front, and use the smallest number.
- Mark the bottom of each bracket at the same height, measured from the floor (or from the top of the bracket below when stacking shelves). Check the marks are level with each other. The bracket is your marking template; set a mini-level on top of each bracket.
- Attach the middle bracket at your marks, firmly enough to hold the rods, without final tightening. This is the first bracket for every layout.
- Slide all six rods straight through the middle bracket and let them hang, roughly centered.
- Attach the two outer brackets at your marks, without final tightening. With a wall or another shelf at both ends, slide the rods to one side to make room for each bracket. Side walls under 44 inches apart: assemble the whole shelf first and lift it into place.
- Extend the rods into both outer brackets so they are securely seated (all the way through, flush with the outside, is best), adjusting within 42–74 inches in half-inch steps. Check level and confirm every rod is straight, then fully tighten the screws without overtightening. Recheck before loading the shelf.
